You can check if your phone is unlocked by putting an active sim card from a different network to the one you are currently using in your phone. If it works and allows you to call and text your device is already Unlocked.
If you are on EE and using an iPhone you can text UNLOCK to 150. This will tell you the unlock status of your phone.
